05/14 - New interface for WSU Library catalog

Starting May 13 you may notice a new look and feel to the Library’s catalog.  

To better serve WSU's students, faculty, and staff we are upgrading to a new version of MnPALS Plus .  The new version retains all functionality of the current interface, as well as adding new functionality such as:

• Mobile Interface
• Alphabetic browse of call numbers, titles, subjects, etc
• Enhanced advanced search functionality
• Patron Empowerment features with “Your Account”:
• Saving searches
• Ability to select records and store in favorite lists, then print or email those lists
• Options to maintain multiple “favorites” lists
• Ability to select and renew multiple loans
• Ability to select multiple Interlibrary loans to renew or cancel
• Ability to select and cancel multiple holds
• Ability to select multiple bookings to cancel
• Ability to link directly to a blank ILL request form
• Suggested topics (subjects) based on your original search
• Faster displays of facets

The upgrade also lays the groundwork for possible future enhancements such as improved authentication capabilities (using WSU ID/passwords) and amplified discovery systems.  

We think will enjoy using the new version and that it will help you effectively research the Library’s many local and external resources.

Note:  From the Library's homepage, please refresh your browser (using the circular arrow), this will ensure you have the most current version of the Library's homepage which includes all of the updated links to our catalog and other resources.  You may also need to clear your computer's cache.

05/01 - A Visit from Winston the Therapy Dog - Wednesday at 1pm

Next Wednesday (May 1st) Winston, WSU's registered therapy dog, will be in the library from 1:00pm – 2:00pm. Winston along with Lynda Brzezinski, PhD, LP from Counseling & Wellness Services will be available to help students relieve the s...tress of finals and other end-of-year pressures (they may also return on Thursday from 2-3pm).

So if you need a break, stop by and say hello to Winston. They will hang out on the first floor of the Library.

04/10 - Athenaeum at 1pm - Advanced Poetry Writing WSU Student Reading

Join us at 1pm as we listen to WSU students from Professor Jim Armstrong's advanced poetry class.  They will read their original poetry to showcase their year-long education in the art of writing poems.

Please join us on Wednesday, April 3^rd at 1:00pm for our Library Athenaeum titled Soundings and Seasonings: Poems for April presented by Emilio DeGrazia, Professor Emeritus, Winona State University.  This presentation will be a reading/discussion from Professor DeGrazia's book of poems, "Seasonings," along with new work from a book to be entitled "Soundings."

03/13 - Athenaeum at 1pm - Assessment in the History Department: Outcomes for History Majors and GEPS Students

Come one come all!  Join us at 1:00pm on Wednesday, March 13, for "Assessment in the History Department: Outcomes for History Majors and GEPS Students" presented by Matthew Lungerhausen, Matt Lindaman  and Michelle Kuhl.

The panel will discuss the methods used by WSU’s history department to assess student learning among both majors and General Education (GEPS) students. Professor Lungerhausen will address the main focus of the Department’s assessment for majors, the senior thesis project. Professors Lindaman and Kuhl will discuss the way they have used Document Based Questions to assess historical thinking skills in GEPS students from Professor Lindaman’s Western Civilizations classes.

Please encourage your students and colleagues to attend.
