I read this article with enthusiasm. Our group, the Crow Creek Longriders, do a commemorative motorcycle ride each year to remember the Dakota and Winnebago that suffered when these people were taken from their ancestral homes in June of 1863.

Ms. Hyman fills in the blanks and gives a detailed perspective to a sad but true historical event. The women's point of view, rarely written about in historical research, tells of the real suffering of the people involved at Fort Thompson, SD after the forced movement from Minnesota.

Our group has been in touch with Ms. Hyman and will ask her to speak at our annual fundraising event as we support youth programs at the Crow Creek Indian Reservation through the Boys and Girls Club and Project Head Start.
