Winona City Newspaper Database - Maintenance

There have been reported issues with indexing of the Winona City Newspaper database.  It appears there may be a retrieval issue, when Keyword searching, in various years of the databases.

A full re-indexing has been requested and is in progress, however this will take time over the next few weeks.

You may continue to have retrieval errors until this re-indexing is complete.  We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to have it back to normal over the next few weeks.

New Interface for PsycInfo/PsycArticles

In the last week, the access and the interface with which you search both PsycInfo and PsycArticles has changed. Up until the end of last semester, our vendor for them was Cambridge Scientific. The search interface may seem familiar as our access to these two databases has switched to EBSCO, which hosts Academic Search Premier and other WSU databases.

Check it out at:

Online Library Resource/Database Access Errors

In the past couple weeks, the campus community has had increasing difficulty accessing the library’s resources. When accessing the library’s resources, specifically the library’s databases, a web page may appear that states “browser cannot access this page”. This access problem has occurred both on and off campus, and is not limited to only accessing the databases, but also when attempting to accessing the full-text of an article.

What’s being done: Campus IT is investigating, but they have not been able to pinpoint the problem, since these access problems seem to be sporadic and not directly linked to one type of internet browser, type of computer, on/campus, or library resource, so the library has created a form for people to report their access problems. This form can be found on the library’s databases page: http://www.winona.edu/library/databases/

Reporting (help us and IT figure out the problem): Here is a direct link to the form titled “Report an Access Problem”, this link can be found above the columns of Databases by Subject: http://www.winona.edu/library/help/cannotaccessproblem.html

Troubleshooting: When I’ve experienced these access problems, I try the following:
• Refresh the web page,
• Click on the back button,
• Closed the browser window, or tried again after some time has passed.

If you’re having access problems while in a database, write down what you have searched or the article citations, so that you can replicate the search later or search for the article(s).

Please inform your students about this form, the above suggestions, and that Campus IT is investigating the cause of these access problems.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We hope to have this resolved soon.
