Possible Disruption with Interlibrary Loan Service

Strike at University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus and MINITEX Services

The University of Minnesota announced that on August 24, 2007, three AFSCME locals delivered a notice of intent to strike to the University. The strike will begin Wednesday, September 5, 2007. This potential situation could affect some of the MINITEX staff, who are AFSCME – represented staff – the Document Delivery and Delivery areas would be the most affected. There could be delays in some services provided by MINITEX during this period, such as Interlibrary Loan.

MINITEX will continue to provide services during this period, and staff are being re-directed to assist with the Document Delivery and Delivery units in order to process interlibrary loan requests.

This situation is being covered by the media and reports are appearing in the Twin Cities newspapers.

The message above does not make it clear that the strike will seriously impact our ability to get Interlibrary Loan materials.
