09/25 - Athenaeum at 1pm - A Researcher’s Travel to Havana, Cuba

Join us today at 1:00pm for A Researcher’s Travel to Havana, Cuba presented by Suzanne Draayer, Professor, Music.

Professor Draayer traveled to La Habana, Cuba in March 2012 to conduct research on Cuban art song composers and their music. The difficulty and challenges of the trip—the acquisition of a researcher’s license from OFAC, visas restrictions, finding a host, etc.—will be presented, as well as the success of my journey.

After visiting with musicologists at the Museo Nacional de la Música, Professor Draayer was able to return with several scores and books on Cuban art music, which were donated to the Darrell Krueger Library. An article will appear in Journal of Singing.

This week is Banned Books week.  We are celebrating our freedom to read by highlighting books which have been banned or challenged.  Stop by the first floor of the Library to check out a few.  Learn why some books get challenged and share a banned book that you've read with us.

The Library Boot Camp will not only help you learn more about the Krueger Library, but also, if you complete all of the challenges, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a $50, $25, or $15 iTunes gift card. 

Here's what you'll need to do:

1. Download two free apps: SCVNGR and a QR reader on your iPad mini. 
2. Then work through the Krueger Library Boot Camp challenges.   
3. Once all of the challenges are completed, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a $50, $25, or $15 iTunes gift card.
4. Complete all 9 challenges (at your own pace) by Oct. 15 to eligible for the drawing.
